[120119]IT Maeil Interviews Girls’ Generation About ‘Freestyle Sports’

JCE’s most famous sports games, “Freestyle”, “Freestyle Football”, and “Freestyle 2″, were all brought together for the “Freestyle Sports” brand.  After choosing Korea’s greatest girl group Girls’ Generation as their main model for the brand, they have quickly gained attention.

“Freestyle Sports” updated the games with Girls’ Generation characters – “Freestyle” with Tiffany, Yuri, and Sooyoung, “Freestyle Football” with Sunny, Yoona, and Seohyun, and “Freestyle 2″ with Taeyeon, Jessica, and Hyoyeon characters.

They held an event for all three games simultaneously, distributing one free Girls’ Generation character to users.  At another event, limited posters and Girls’ Generation packages were given away on a first-come-first-serve basis.

So how do the main models, Girls’ Generation, feel about the sports game?  In this interview, we listened to their feelings, future plans, and resolutions.

-How do you feel about becoming the main models for “Freestyle Sports”?

We were able to meet with everyone through “Freestyle Sports” this winter.  Basketball and soccer are all sports that are popular in Korea.  We are well aware of other girl groups participating in “Freestyle” and “Freestyle Football”.  We have also heard that we are the first girl group to work with the newly released “Freestyle 2″.  We’re happy about the meaningful opportunity to become the first girl group to have characters for “Freestyle 2″.  Our hearts flutter just imagining that Girls’ Generation will be shown doing difficult dunks, making three-pointers, and making volley shots.

-Three members were divided as models for each game.  Was there a certain criteria?

While working with “Freestyle Sports”, we each had one keyword that we had to express.  Yoona’s was “challenge”, Sooyoung’s was “delight”, Yuri’s was “competition”, Hyoyeon and Jessica had “match/showdown”, Taeyeon and Sunny’s was “passion”, and Tiffany and Seohyun’s was “victory”. We first divided the members by the keywords that would match well with each other.  Three member characters have been divided for each game right now, but users should be able to see all nine members for each game soon.

-Was there anything interesting that happened during the Freestyle Sports CF shoot?

Ah!  There was a member who found an unexpected talent while filming!  There were a lot of scenes where members had to throw basketballs and kick soccer balls during the “Freestyle Sports” shoot. Of them, the member who left an impression was Jessica.  It was a scene where Jessica had to shoot a three-pointer past Hyoyeon’s defense.  At first, the way she was holding the ball was awkward. However, after shooting a few times, she was surprisingly really good.  It was to the point where we were saying we found Jessica’s unexpected, hidden basketball skills through this CF filming.  The atmosphere was great, with the staff members cheering every time she made a shot.

-Have you played the game?

We don’t have a lot of time to spend alone when preparing for promotions or an album. It’s difficult finding time for a hobby other than dancing or vocal practice.  There are members who played games in the past, so we do have a bit of interest in them.  We like casual games in particular.  ”Freestyle”, “Freestyle Football”, “Freestyle 2″ are games that we have heard a lot about, but haven’t been able to play ourselves.  We did see staff playing during the CF shoot, and it looked really fun.  Since it is a sports game where you have to split into teams, it would be really fun for our competitive members.

-Any promotional plans as models for Freestyle Sports?

Because we are models for “Freestyle Sports”, gamers will be able to see us in the “Freestyle” series every day.  We will also meet users through television ads and through online and offline contests. Please give Girls’ Generation characters in the “Freestyle” series lots and lots of love!

-Any future Girls’ Generation’s activities or plans?

We had a happy ending to the year with all the love shown for our third album, “The Boys”, in and outside of Korea.  We will be juggling concerts overseas as well as members’ individual activities with music, dramas, musicals and variety shows.  Fans will be able to see a dynamic Girls’ Generation.

-Lastly, a word as Freestyle’s models.

(Yuri) ”Hello, this is Girls’ Generation’s Yuri.  Look at me flying around the basketball court in ‘Freestyle’!”

(Sooyoung) ”Hello, this is Girls’ Generation’s Sooyoung.  Pick my Sooyoung character a lot!”

(Tiffany) ”Hello, this is Tiffany. Did you hear that us nine members of Girls’ Generation have fallen deeply for basketball and soccer this winter?  Give ‘Freestyle Sports’, where our characters will appear, lots of love.  And please give my Tiffany character lots of love!”

(Sunny) ”Hello, this is Sunny!  A cute Sunny character appears in ‘Freestyle Sports’!  Are you ready to be surprised?  Look forward to the bouncy play of Sunny that you can’t see on stage!”

(Seohyun) ”Hello, this is Girls’ Generation’s maknae, Seohyun.  Have you seen the Seohyun character that’s like myself – enjoying challenges?  Spend a happy winter with ‘Freestyle Sports’ and Girls’ Generation!”

(Yoona) ”Hello, this is Girls’ Generation’s Yoona.  I am planning on showing a fast, quick and hidden new charm through ‘Freestyle Sports’!  Look forward to it!”

(Taeyeon) ”Hello, this is Girls’ Generation’s Taeyeon.  I hope you choose the Taeyeon character a lot and have fun playing.  Even though it’s a small, petite character, it’s still a skilled character!  Give it lots of love.”

(Hyoyeon) ”Love the ‘Freestyle’ series a lot, which is fun even just watching.  Give the Hyoyeon character lots of love, too!”

(Jessica) ”What do you think about meeting me everyday this winter through ‘Freestyle Sports’?  I will be showing my haughty plays through ‘Freestyle 2′.  Look forward to it.”

[120115]Battle of the Dramas

Along with new songs, new shows, and new performances, 2012 brings with it new dramas for fans of Girls’ Generation to laugh, scream, and cry over. In one surprise announcement after another, Jessica, Yuri, Sooyoung and Yoona have been cast in four different dramas, all of which are set to begin airing in the first half of the year.

Wild Romance

Jessica’s casting in the biweekly Wednesday and Thursday drama “Wild Romance” was officially confirmed on December 23rd. “Wild Romance” is a romantic comedy which depicts a love story between Park Moo Yul (played by Lee Dongwook), a baseball player, and Yoo Eun Jae (played by Lee Si Young), a bodyguard and Moo Yul’s greatest anti-fan. Though they despise each other, an incident forces Eun Jae to work as Moo Yul’s bodyguard. Jessica will be appearing in approximately eight episodes and playing the role of Kang Jonghee, the unforgettable first love of Park Moo Yul.

KBS has opened an official website for “Wild Romance”, which features several video previews of the drama. The website also has a page displaying the cast of the show, with the box marked Kang Jonghee currently blank. However, several formerly empty boxes have been filled in with characters’ faces since the start of the drama, suggesting that the space for Kang Jonghee will soon be updated with Jessica’s photo when her role begins.

After singing “Because Tears Are Overflowing” for the OST of “Romance Town” last year, Jessica is also contributing to the OST for “Wild Romance”, singing alongside Kim Jinpyo. The song will be released on January 19th through various digital music sites such as Melon. The January 19th episode of “Wild Romance” will also feature Jessica’s first appearance in the drama.

Jessica’s appearances in “Wild Romance” will be her first regular role in a scripted television show. To prepare, Jessica has been receiving acting lessons from veteran teachers, studying important fundamental techniques, and working hard in an effort to not disappoint her fans.

“Wild Romance” began airing on January 4th.

Fashion King

With their elegant airport and red carpet fashion, it seems appropriate that a member of Girls’ Generation would play a role in a drama named “Fashion King”. Though few details are currently known, “Fashion King” is described as a drama about youth and their experiences of challenges, successes, love and desires. The plot will focus on a young man who begins in Dongdaemun, a fashion and shopping center, and later succeeds in the fashion industry. Yuri will be playing the role of Anna, and will be part of a cast that includes well-known actors Yoo Ah-in, Shin Sekyung, and Lee Jaehoon.

Fans familiar with Yuri’s acting will be especially curious to see how much Yuri has grown as an actress since her role on “Unstoppable Marriage” with Sooyoung. Until now, Yuri has only played roles similar to her real life personality, so this drama gives her a chance to show a wider range of her acting skills. To prepare, Yuri has also been taking intensive acting lessons alongside Jessica, and practicing character analysis, vocalization, and breathing. However, the producers of “Fashion King” already had high expectations for Yuri even before she started her intense acting training, citing her emotional acting skills in K. Will’s music video for “Dropping The Tears”.

“Fashion King” will succeed “Salaryman Chohanji” in SBS’s Monday and Tuesday 9:55 PM drama slot, and is scheduled to begin airing on March 12th.

Speed

Like Yuri, Sooyoung’s casting in “Speed” marks her first foray into regular appearances on a drama since playing a small part in “Unstoppable Marriage”. Since “Unstoppable Marriage”, Sooyoung has only made cameos in dramas such as “Paradise Ranch” and played a supporting role in the film “Hello, Schoolgirl”.

“Speed” will provide Sooyoung with her first lead role. She plays Seo Jiwon, a tall and beautiful orthopedist for a racing team. Seo Jiwon has a bright, cheerful, and hard-working personality, similar to Sooyoung in real life, but Seo has been scarred by the loss of her parents in a car accident when she was much younger. The drama will focus on competitive racecar driving, the growth of and a love story between four men and women.

Yang Yoonho, director of the popular spy thriller “IRIS”, has already signed on to direct “Speed”. An airdate has yet to be announced.

Love Rain

Girls’ Generation’s resident actress Yoona won over much of the drama-viewing population as Saebyuk in the 2008 daily drama “You Are My Destiny”. However, after starring in “Cinderella Man” in 2009, Yoona has since been absent from the drama scene, making her return to the small screen in “Love Rain” welcome news for fans and ahjummas alike.

Described as a “fantasy melodrama”, “Love Rain” tells of two love stories in a plot similar to Korean movie “The Classic”. The first love story centers around a man and woman in college in the 1970′s who fall in love, but go their separate ways when their relationship does not work out. The two eventually marry other people and start their own families. The second love story then begins when their kids meet in the present day and fall in love themselves. “Love Rain” thus presents Yoona with a new challenge, as she plays both Kim Yoohee from the 1970s and her daughter Kim Hana from the present day. Similarly, Jang Geunsuk, who was cast opposite Yoona, will also be playing dual roles as Yoona’s characters’ love interests.

Teaser photos (one, two, three) and a preview of “Love Rain” have already been released, and filming has been underway since September of 2011. The drama is expected to begin airing March 26th, on the same days and time slot as “Fashion King”.

Question: How did you feel when Girls’ Generation was announced as the winner of the Daesang?
Taeyeon: We were really thankful. We did not realize it at first when it was announced in Japanese. Only when ‘So Nyeo Shi Dae’ was mentioned, we realized it was us. (laughter) Until now, the smiles seem to be stuck on our faces. It reminded me of last year. We could not hold back our tears when we received the award last year and we are really happy to receive it again this year.

Question: Did you expect to win the award?
Tiffany: We wanted to win it. (laughter) However, we were nervous about it along with other great artists. Because we worked very hard last year, we would be satisfied even if we didn’t win the award. We are thankful for the award.

Question: At this moment, Who comes to your mind?
Sooyoung: Definitely, we thought of our fans first. Thanks to our fans, we were able to receive this award. Thank you so much.

Question: Last year, when you were receiving your Daesang, all the members were sad because Tiffany who suffered an injury to her leg could not be there. I think it must be special since all nine members are here to receive the awards.
Tiffany: It feels really great. I think I’m the happiest and most excited among all of us. It feels good to be with the members and I will work even harder in the future.

Question: What was 2010 like to Girls’ Generation?
Jessica: We were extremely busy. It was nice to be able to meet a lot of overseas fans. Please wait for a while more as we will be meeting you again.

Question: Girls’ Generation won the New Artist Award in 2007, Digital Daesang in 2009 and Disk Daesang in 2010. This year, you have won Bonsang and Daesang too. Girls’ Generation seem to have a good bond with Golden Disk Awards.
Yuri: It was really an honor. It was really great to receive the award. I think this year will be a happy year for us too.

Question: In the recent 3 years, without fail, Girls’ Generation have been winning the Digital and Disk Daesang on alternate years. After Kim GunMo, Girls’ Generation are the second artist to have won Golden Disk Daesang for 3 years in a row.
YoonA: Now that you mentioned it, I’m getting the goosebumps immediately. Ah, because ’3 consecutive years’ was mentioned, I think I’m feeling the electrified sensation all over. We are thankful and we will work even harder to perform better to achieve good results next year too.

Question: Since debut, Girls’ Generation have been on the rise continuously. However, I think there must be some difficult times too. When was it?
